50 ఓ బుల్లి కథ 38---- పెప్సీ సీసా తయారు --- నూరు పాళ్ళు చెట్ల పదార్ధాల నుండి

ముందు మాట: పెప్సీ సాఫ్ట్ డ్రింక్ కంపెనీ మంగళవారం నాడు, March 15, 2011,  వాళ్ళు ఉపయోగించబోయే కొత్తరకం సీసా గురించి చెప్పింది. దానిని నూటికి నూరు పాళ్ళు. చెట్లనుండి వచ్చిన పదార్ధములతో తయారు చేయుటవలన,  ప్లాస్టిక్ వలన పర్యావరణము నకు వచ్చే ముప్పు తగ్గుతుంది.

వారి మాటల్లోనే:
The bottle is made from switch grass, pine bark, corn husks and other materials. Ultimately, Pepsi plans to also use orange peels, oat hulls, potato scraps and other leftovers from its food business.

The new bottle looks, feels and protects the drink inside exactly the same as its current bottles, said Rocco Papalia, senior vice president of advanced research at PepsiCo. "It's indistinguishable."

PepsiCo says it is the world's first bottle of a common type of plastic called PET made entirely of plant-based materials. Coca-Cola Co. currently produces a bottle using 30 percent plant-based materials and recently estimated it would be several years before it has a 100 percent plant bottle that's commercially viable.

Turning Plants into plastic: Most plastic is made from petroleum, the molecules of which are modified and organized into long chains called polymers. Pepsi Co announced Tuesday that researchers developed a method to ditch the petroleum for material culled from switch grass and pine bark at first, and later from agricultural waste from its own operations.  At the core of the secret process is extracting cellulose, a basic building block of all plants, and using it to form the resin polyethylene terepthalate, or PET. At the molecular level, the new bottle would be identical to any other PET plastic bottle, Pepsi says.
